LOG SHORTAGE OVERCOME
Re-employment Of Men Bv Plant (N.Z. Press Association) GREYMOUTH. Sept. 14. The log shortage which has prevailed at the recently constructed £750,000 West Coast plywood plant of Fletcher Industries, at Gladstone, no longer exists. The factory manager, Mr A. MacGregor, confirmed today that about 100,000 feet of rimu and white pine was on the skids. The 10 men who were dismissed because of the shortage on August 10, will be given first choice for re-em-ployment starting on tomorrow night’s second shift. Mr MacGregor gave a personal guarantee to each man before dismissal that he would be re-employed when the log supply increased. With the shortage overcome, Fletcher Industries will now be able to start full-scale operations, bringing its total staff up to about 120.
