PROBATION ORDERED
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 13. Samuel Walter Davis, aged 42, a drainlayer, was placed on probation for two years by Mr Justice Richmond in the Supreme Court today for receiving two adding machines worth £2lO.
Ait his trial it was said they were part of a consignment of 10 which disappeared at the port of Opua. “Forunately for you Opua has an excellent record in the matter of cargo pilfering, so I am not put in a position of dealing on a basis that it was a prevalent offence in the area,” said his Honour. Davis was ordered to pay £5O towards costs.
What did w« talk about? Oh, money of course. It’s what opera people always talk about. —Sir David Webster, general administrator of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
