Bagush Pleases In Work

"The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH.

The Grand National Hurdles winner, Bagush, strode out impressively yesterday at Awapuni in preparation for Saturday’s Marton Handicap. Fresh after a brief respite from racing, he worked with dash and his trial over seven furlongs on the course proper left the impression he could have a chance if he strikes soft footing. Bagush was sent seven furlongs. He ran the last six effortlessly in Imin 27sec and could have clipped seconds from his time. Horses from the E. Temperton stable have a good record at Marton, where Bagush could easily cause an upset in the first leg of the main double. Talavera, down to resume in the Farewell Handicap tomorrow, revealed brilliance in a sprint over half a mile in 52 3-ssec, the final three furlongs taking her 39 2-ssec. It was useful, as the track was eased by overnight rain. Talavera, usually at her best on fast going, may need a few fine days to notch a first up success.

Supa ran a splendid halfmile in preparation for the York Farm Handicap. Hitting out well she clocked 52 3-ssec, the final three taking her 39 l-ssec. She showed useful form last season and now she appears likely to carry on with it. HAD BIG WEIGHT

Comitis was paired with Tilly Light at five furlongs. They covered the distance in Imin 10 4-ssec, the final three in 41 4-ssec. It was a good work for both of them, especially Comitis, which carried a big weight and pulled up well.

Might cut out half a mile in 53sec, running from the three in 38sec. His race at Wanga-

nui last week improved him considerably. On a fast track this week-end he could win the Flying Handicap. An impressive run over five furlongs with Al Pedro in Imin 9 3-ssec indicated a week-end chance for Pizzi-

cato in the Farewell Handicap. She clocked 39 3-ssec for her final three furlongs and left the impression she could have done even better. She is improving rapidly at this stage. Ichtar shaded Brevity at the end of six furlongs in Imin 24sec, a useful gallop. Ichtar is progressing steadily. Brevity seems none the worse for a fall at Te Rapa. She will contest the steeplechase at Marton on Saturday.
