SANTOS v. MAUNSELL

Terms Not Approved

(N.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND. Sept. 14.

The terms offered by the Canterbury Boxing Association for Manoel Santos, of Auckland, to fight Brian Maunsell, of Christchurch, for the vacant New Zealand light-weight title do not meet with the approval of Mr Ron Grimmer, trainer-manager of Santos.

Mr Grimmer has received a telegram from Christchurch asking if Santos would meet Maunsell for the title m Christchurch on October 28.

The proposal was that the boxers would fight on a 60-40 per cent basis for 70 per cent of the gate, with the limit to be £750.

Mr Grimmer was critical of the terms, and said that there was a “ceiling to the purse, but there was no floor.”
