VISIT IN DOUBT

Tennis Tour By Russia

(N.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND. Sept. 14.

Tennis officials in Auckland are becoming anxious that the proposed visit by the Russians to Australia and New Zealand this summer may not eventuate. A Russian team has been invited to play in the international invitation tournaments in New Zealand in February, and the Australian association has indicated that it is seeking the Russians for a visit next month.

Apart from the national association councillors, Messrs T. Lusk and J. Gunn, contacting the Russians at Wimbledon, the association has not heard from Russia.

The Russian Embassy in Wellington cannot help the national association, which may soon make another direct approach to Russia. The manager of the New Zealand Davis Cup team, Mr Gunn, said in Auckland today that he has not heard anything from the Russians since he spoke with them at Wimbledon.

“They indicated then that they were keen to play in New Zealand, and were prepared to find their own way as far as Djakarta,” said Mr Gunn.
