S. TYROL BATTLE
Police Fight Terrorists (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) ROME, September 14. Fifty Italian alpine troops fought a six-hour machinegun battle with terrorists yesterday in a new flare-up of violence in the Italian South Tyrol, the Associated Press reported. No-one was injured. Police said the shooting started late last night when terrorists opened fire on an alpine troop barracks from hiding places in the surrounding woods. The soldiers fired back from inside the barracks.
Son To Ringo.—Ringo Starr, of the Beatles, became a father tonight when his 19-year-old wife. Maureen, gave birth to a son. Mother and son were reported well at Queen Charlotte Hospital, London.—(London, September 14.)
