Rabbiters As Unionists
Sir, —In criticising the union for sending their rabbiters registered letters asking them to join, the Waimakariri Rabbit Board seems to have forgotten that is the way compulsory rabbit boards are formed. Some of the farmers who had so much to say were not even elected to 1 ■ original board. They were hand picked. 1 had 15 years in trade unions before farming and I always had the democratic right to elect my own representative. If the
union fees seem high it is because the members have to pay the lot. They do not get a £ for £ subsidy like rabbit boards. The rabbiters are threatened with prosecution if they do not pay. I paid my rabbit board rates into the Magistrate’s Court after the board in my area had served a distress warrant to me.— Yours, etc., CLIFF S. GREEN. Ashley, September 13, 1965.
