S. AFRICAN WOOL SALES
Heavy Buying By Japan
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PORT ELIZABETH, Sept. 12. Heavy bir ’ng by Japan in Port Elizabeth, the centre of the South African wool industry, has sent wool prices up 5 per cent since the new season started two weeks ago, accordihg to buyers and brokers.
They say that already this season Japanese visitors have been around wool stores, and there are hints that they are likely to be even bigger buyers than they were last year. Confirmation of greater Japanese interest is seen in prices for lower-yielding wools being relatively dear, compared with the more expensive types. The effect has been to boost the price average.
