THEFT FROM CARS
Appeal By Police
The theft of £399 in cash from two cars in Christchurch was reported to the police at the week-end.
Also reported was the theft of £3OO in cash and goods from five other cars. A business man reported to the C. 1.8. on Saturday that he had left £269 in a satchel in his locked car while attending a party in Randolph street, Linwood, on Friday night. The driver’s window of his car was forced open and the satchel stolen.
The police recovered the satchel—empty—on Saturday. It was found at the corner of Johns road and Linwood avenue at 9.30 a.m.
A linotype mechanic discovered £l3O missing from his car on Saturday morning. He told the police he had driven his car constantly round Christchurch since the previous Sunday, when he put the money in it, and could not say when it had been stolen. Another Appeal
“Only a few days ago, 1 drew attention in a statement to the newspapers to the carer lessness of drivers in leaving valuable property in their cars, and now here are another two big thefts,” Detec-tive-Inspector W. E. Hollingshead said yesterday. “It seems people will just not be told,” he said, appealing once again to drivers not to leave valuables in their cars. Stolen From House Detectives are also investigating a house burglary in Riccarton road at the weekend. The sum of £97 and a carton of cigarettes were stolen. The back door of the house was forced open.
Of course, we can’t all be Winston Churchills. We all can’t be President. I found that out.—Richard Nixon.
