WOMEN'S GAMES
> Leaders Have Easy Wins i There were no surprises when I the women s indoor basketball competition games were placed at Cowles Stadium on Monllav evening The leading team’s scored comparatively easy wins Brighton A beat University. 24 13; Rex A beat Rebels A. 32-12; Checkers beat Rangiora. 3S-9. University managed to contain the strong Brighton combination in the first half, mainly due to accurate set shooting’ by M. Hessey. However. once Brlgthon switched to a man-to-man defence, University was unable to keep possession. The fast breaking forwards. B. Ross and P. Jarvis were always quick to capitalise on possession given them. The guard, P. Miller, played particularly well, both on offence and defence, and her set shooting was most accurate. She top scored for Brighton with 10 points. Although below full strength. Rebels A did not offer much resistance to the Rex A side Rex combined well to lake a commanding lead from the start. .1 Gaskell, with fine cut ting movements, scored IS points and was well assisted bv B. Blight.
In recent matches Rangiora has been most disappointing and a lack of scoring ability was evident against Checkers S. Chamberlain scored well for Checkers and .1. Baker one* again played a solid role.
