Stakes Up By £1575 “The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL. The Southland Racing Club wilil increase stakes by £1575 for the new season’s racing, spread over five days. The Invercargill Gold Cup, run on January 3, the first day of the club’s summer meeting, will now carry a stake of £lBOO and a cup worth £lO given annually by Mr W. E. Hazlett. The club will now hold the Southland Guineas on the first day of its summer meeting and the stake has been raised to £450. Since the 1961-62 season the dub has increased stakes by £4738, or almost £lOOO a year. The club has also dedded that at both the November and January meetings horses travelling from further north than Dunedin wil l be subsidised up to two-thirds of the float costs.
