Combination Favoured For Wingatui Win

‘"The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN. rr Combination and Flying York are likely to dominate the betting in tt ?7 l y ., ” . andlcap ’ th® feature mile and the first leg of the Otago Hunt Club s T.A.B. double at Wingatui tomorrow.

Combination is the mount of R. J. Skelton, the leading jockey last season, and Flying York will be ridden by the stable jockey, E. J. Didham. whose impressive list of riding successes last season included the Invercargill Gold Cup and the Wellington Cup. Both horses have a solid form background and will be better conditioned than many of their opponents. Combination won the Donald Grant Memorial at Washdyke in July when he beat Shakes, but Shakes turned the tables at

their last start when he narrowly beat Combination in the August Mile at the Grand National meeting. Flying York was runner-up in the sprint on the first day of the Wellington winter meeting and was second in both his starts at the Grand National meeting. This Isaac York gelding has done well since he returned from Riccarton and is expected to test Combination. The top-weight, Woodcock, has not raced since finishing third to Friar’s Birthday and Lorastan in the Dominion Handicap at the Canterbury Easter meeting. Gladaub will be well supported after his decisive win at Gore last week. McCool and Calvados look likely improvers on their recent racing. They a J" e . P roven gallopers and at their best could feature in the finish. Both horses had two races at the Grand National meeting and should show the benefit of those gallops. The second leg will be the G. J. Barton Memorial. The oncourse double will be on the Seaview Hurdles and the Taieri Hack Handicap. The weather has been fine and the track should be good.
