SERIOUSLY ILL

(Hl. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 2. Old age has put the Auckland zoo elephant Jamuna on the dangerously ill list. The zoo director, Mr D. Wood, said tonight the elephant was very sick. She was lying down with little energy left and a slight fever.

“We are very concerned,” said Mr Wood. “We are giving her massive doses of antibiotics, but we don’t know which way it will go.” Jamuna is about 58, a ripe age for an elephant ir captivity. She was brought from India in 1923 as a gift from Mr John Court.
