RECALLED TO JAPAN
Boat Found In Limits (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 2. The Japanese fishing I boat found inside territorial waters off the west coast of the North Island on August 27 had been recalled to Japan, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) told a press conference today. He said the boat had been recalled by the Japanese Government before New Zealand lodged an official protest. He said the Japanese Embassy in Wellington had received its own information and had notified its government before the New Zealand protest was lodged. Mr Holyoake said that by recalling the ship to Japan the Japanese Government was inflicting a severe punishment as there was considerable loss involved;
Admiral Picard d’Estelan. commander-in-chief of French Forces in the Pacific, dined vesterday with the Chief of the Defence Staff, LieutenantGeneral L. W. Thornton, and attended a French Embassy reception last evening. This morning he will fly to Auckland, then to Norfolk Island and Noumea. —(P.A.)
