Revenue Rises In August
A 29 per cent rise in customs and excise lifted total customs revenue from Christchurch by £lBO.OBl, or 26 per cent, to £880,069 during August. In the five months ended August, total returns were 3.8 per cent, or £167,270. higher at £4,519,761. Details of customs returns for August, with returns for August of last year in parenthesis, are:—
Customs and excise, £613,235 (£475,543); .tyres, £1047 (£326): sates tax, £259,152 (£216.406; light dues, £845 (£1318); miscel laneous, £5790 (£6395); total. £880,069 (£699,988). Otago Returns Customs returns for the Port of Otago during August were up by £72,939 on returns for August, 1964. Returns, with 1964 figures in parenthesis, were: Customs, £177.284 (£139.421); sales tax, £98,428 (£85,903); harbour dues, £120,385 (£97,852); tyres, £ll4 (£96); total, £396,210 (£323,271). Wellington Revenue collected by the Customs Department in Wellington during August totaUed £5,153,299, compared with £4,808,935 in August last year. Details are: Customs, £1,040,325 (£935,680 last year); sales tax, £1,715,880 (£1,621,781); motor spirit tax and duty, £2,274,726 (£2,105,494); tyres, £228 (£1673; other, £122,114 (£145,813). Register Closed.— Ampol Petroleum register of holders of 7 per per cent regis’tered unsecured notes (1971/74/ 78) will be closed on October 1 and remain closed until October 4. Interest is payable on October 15, ex interest October 2.—(P.A.)
