Market Continues Sharp Decline
Prices for both New Zealand and Australian shares were again marked down yesterday as the market continued its decline. Falls outnumbered rises by nearly 10 to one. Key stocks were weak.
Only four New Zealand issues advanced: Auckland Gas, Gear Meat, Taupo Totara rights and Ballins notes. Only one Australian stock, 1.C.1.A.N.Z., firmed. There were some sharp setbacks again in the New Zealand fist and the rights market also suffered.
Australian shares reflected the trend on the home market. Colonial Sugar Refining New Zealand register was a feature with a fall of Is 3d to 525, while C.S.R. Australia lost another 6d to 52s 3d. Ansett, 8.H.P., E.Z., Factors, G. J. Coles, H. C. Sleigh, L. J. Hooker, W. R. Carpenter, Woolworths and Mount Isa also fell.
