Aircraft Attack Sarawak Village

(N Z. Press Association-Copyright) KUCHING (Sarawak), September 2. Royal Air Force patrols along the Sarawak-Indonesia border have been intensified after the strafing of an undefended village by Indonesian aircraft.

The two Indonesian pro-peller-driven planes crossed the border and machinegunned the native village of Pau Mor in Sarawak State's Fourth Administrative Division. No casualties resulted and there was little damage, a military spokesman said. The village is 400 miles north-east of Kuching and four miles away from the Indonesian border. Royal Air Force Javelin fighters based at nearby Labuan Island “scrambled” but failed to intercept the Indonesian planes, the spokesman said Royal Air Force patrols had been intensified along the border, he said. Troops and medical staff were moved to the village. This was the second re-

ported incident in which Indonesian aircraft had intruded into Sarawak territory. An Indonesian plane flew over Kuching, capital of Sarawak, early last year but did not open fire.
