Marine Parade

Sir, —On reading the pamphlet accompanying my rate demand, 1 see the council intends to spend £181,500 bn street construction and widening. Is any of this amount to be spent on widening Marine parade, between Seaview road and Shackleton street? rhir: particular part of Marine parade is far too narrow for safety. In the summer months, with large volumes of traffic on this stretch of road and cars parked at the beach, it constitutes a traffic hazard. Do we have to put up with another summer of traffic jams, or has the council plans for widening this road?—Yours, NOW IS THE TIME. August 16, 1965.

[The acting City Engineer (Mr W. H. Scott) says: “The widening of this section of Marine parade is considered desirable but it is not possible to give a definite answer as to when this will be done, as estimates are considered annually. A portion of the current estimates is devoted to other New Brighton streets with a higher priority.”]
