N.Z. GALLOPERS FAVOURED

(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) MELBOURNE, August 24. Everything indicates that New Zealand’s contingent of gallopers to cross the Tasman next month in quest of the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups will be as strong as ever, the Melbourne “Age’s” chief racing writer, Tony Kennedy, said in a dispatch from Wellington today.

Kennedy, who is in New Zealand to comment on the prospects of horses coming to Australia for the spring cups, said that one of the best New Zealanders may be Sail Away, with good bloodlines and the “right” weights. Sail Away is a five-year-old gelding by Tsaoka from Voyager.

Tsaoka has an excellent stud record. His numerous winners include River Seine (Moonee Valley Cup, Sydney Cup and Doom ben Cup), and Kamikaze (Brisbane Cup). Voyager won races and all her foals have turned out to be good “stickers.”

“IDEAL” HORSE At this stage, Sail Away had the biggest improvement potential to land either the Caulfield Cup or the Melbourne Cup, Kennedy said. Known as the “little bull” and measuring no more than 15| hands, Sail Away is regarded in New Zealand as the ideal cup horse, he said. For a comparatively short horse he has a long stride. Besides being a true stayer, he has a good turn of speed and in a Melbourne Cup would never be positioned worse than fourth or fifth. Sail Away is favourably

handicaped on 8-7 in both cups, representing 121 b under weight-for-age.
