Students Call For Bombing Of China

CV.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SAIGON, August 25. South Vietnam students handed the Government a strongly-worded list of demands today which included a call for the bombing of China.

The communique was passed to Government officials after the students had spent all night debating the Vietnam war.

The Prime Minister, Air Marshal Nguyen Cao Ky, and his Cabinet met to discuss growing unrest among South Vietnam’s student population.

About 150 students met the Government. They represented some 20,000 students in Saigon, Dalat and Hue Universities.

Their communique said: “The cause Of the war in Vietnam is Red China, which should be bombed to cut off the supply of weapons to North Vietnam.” It also criticised American involvement in South Vietnam. and asked the Government to state how long it intended keeping United States troops in the country.

“Let us manage our own foreign affairs,” it said. “The more the United States takes the words out of our mouths the more the Government loses its prestige with the Vietnamese people and the world.” Austerity Call The communique called on the Government urgently to implement the austerity programme it has pledged to fulfil, which includes military training for all able-bodied men, formation of reserve military units, harsh measures against speculators and black marketeers, and price stabilisation. The students also attacked the Government’s tight control of the local press and censorship—and hammered the point home by publishing a completely blank page in their weekly newspaper “Sinh Vien.” Informed sources said today that the main topic at the Cabinet meeting was student opposition to the Government and ominous signs that it was being directed by militant Buddhist leaders.
