Halswell Drainage
Sir, —1 wonder if the District Medical Officer of Health knows of the conditions under which some Halswell people live. 1 have had occasion to visit in this area twice recently and I was appalled Stagnant water from the drains is lying everywhere, and 1 believe in some parts even sewage is overflowing from the septic tanks. Surely, where there are so manyyoung children in an area.and in this day and age when the department is trying to stamp out hepatitis, this should be investigated.—Yours, etc., DISGUSTED.
August 18, 1965. [Dr. L. F. Jepson, Medical Officer of Health, says: “Poor soil conditions in Halswell result in difficulties in disposal of waste water. The County Council proposes installing a sewerage scheme in the near future to overcome these problems. In the meantime specific nuisances should be reported directly to the Halswell County Council.]
