MALAGASY ELECTIONS
Ruling Party I Strengthened ' (N.Z PA.-Reuter —Copyright) TANANARIVE, August 10. President Philibert Tsiranana's ruling Social Democratic Party emerged stronger than ever from yesterday’s elections to the Malagasy (formerly Madagascar) National Assembly. With about three-quarters of the results known, it appeared that the Social Democrats would have 104 seats in the 107-member assembly, the remaining three going to the Congress Party for the Independence of Madagascar. In the former assembly the Social Democrats had 98 seats, the Congress Party two and the Movement for National Revival six, with one seat vacant. The Social Democrats swept the board everywhere except in the capital, an opposition stronghold.
