Annulment Of O.B.E.
(N .Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Aug. 10. Queen Elizabeth yesterday annulled an honour which her father conferred on Harold Philby, a former British diplomat and agent who has been given asylum in Russia. King George VI awarded Philby an 0.8. E. in January, 1946. The Queen's annulment was published today by the official “London Gazette." Philby, aged 53, has been described as the “third man” who enabled the British diplomats, Donald Maclean and Guy Burgess, to defect to Russia in 1951 when security men were on their tracks. After disappearing from Beirut. Lebanon, in 1963, Philby reappeared in Moscow early this year.
