Aim To Export Cattle To N.Z.

A LEADING Tasmanian and New South Wales stud have formed a partnership to promote Poll Hereford cattle sales in New Zealand. The partnership is between Mr L. A. Stuart, of Valmont, Whitemore, Tasmania, his son-in-law, Mr Keith McLaughlan, a former New Zealander, and Mrs McLaughlan, and Brewarrana Pty., Ltd., Narrandera, New South Wales. The general manager of Brewarrana Pty., Ltd., Mr G. P. Auld, said recently that 10 top Poll Hereford females would be sent to Tasmania in calf to top sires and these would form the nucleus of a partnership stud, the progeny

of which would be exported, mainly to New Zealand. A noted breeder of particularly sheep, Mr Stuart was one of the pioneer breeders of the Poll Dorset and was foundation president of the breed. He has exported sheep to New Zealand. Mr McLaughlan, who joined the Valmont enterprise in 1962, gained a diploma of agriculture from Lincoln College in 1955.

The partnership hopes to show its first bulls in New Zealand in 1967. It is expected to be the first time that cattle bred in Tasmania will have been shown in New Zealand.
