Importance Of Fertility
Studies into increased lamb production show that for every 10 per cent rise in the lambing percentage 8 per cent is provided by ewes having twins, states the annual report of the Wool Board in commenting on the activities of the Sheep and Beef Cattle Survey. "As the industry’s watch dog on farm production the Survey continued to emphasise the importance of more research into improving
sheep fertility. In a recommendation to the Meat and Wool Boards the Survey stressed that increased fertility was the most fundamental method of increased production and called for more research into this aspect of the industry. The boards acted promptly on the recommendation which was forwarded to the Minister of Agriculture and Science, Mr Talboys.”
