KORAL IS STRONG NATIONAL FAVOURITE

Dhuran Fancied In Winter Cup

If there are any lingering doubts whether Koral : is an honourable heir-apparent to the ill-fated John O’Groats in the powerful Hazlett stable they should be settled in the Grand National Steeplechase today. A year ago John O’Groats carried off the Homeby Grand ! National double in style.

Kora I should not find the completion of that double any more difficult unless some of his beaten rivals last week can come up with vastly improved runs today.

• It is practically the I Homeby field all over • again except that | i Count Lin has made a late arrival to become a strong reinforcement from the North Island. i Count Lin arrived yester-l day morning looking fit for anything. At 11 years he is the vet-1 i eran of the field, but he has j earned a Grand National [ start if only for his credit-! able third last year. J. R. Potter will ride Count j Lin, probably at a few pounds over-weight. Dhuran, Court Belle, and ; Lei are a fancied trio for the ■ £2OOO Winter Cup, the major • flat race at the meeting and I • the second leg of the T.A.B j Z double today. It will be a race with a strong inter-island flavour. i The Gore-trained Court Belle appears to be the one! most likely to end a succes- • sion of wins by northerners. < Flying York, Debater, and J Fieldmaster may be the pick • of the sprinters in the Papa- ’ rua Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double. There has been some good drying in the track in the • last few days. The ground ‘ should give excellent footing. • Fields, with riders and • form comments, appear ’ below:— « 11.15 a.m.— ENFIELD STEEPLECHASE. £7M>: 2jm 4 st. lb ■ 1770 Dark Jester (16), B. ■ P.
