(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 6. Kapuni gas could produce the cheapest electric power in the North Island, the general manager of Shell-8. P- . Oil Services, Ltd. (Mr D. S. Watts) said tonight. “My company, in studying the natural gas supply, found it would not be economic to distribute the gas by pipeline to North Island cities,” he said. Zinder and Associates, the American consultants engaged to study natural gas, agreed with the company’s “From what has been made public of Mr Shuttuck’s final report, I think he is still of the same opinion,” said Mr Watt. “Mr Shattuck says piping the gas would be feasible in a favourable economic climate. By this I believe he means that only a Government or Government-subsidised plan could afford to pipe the gas,” Mt Watt. said. “It would not be an economic proposition for a private company.”
