OVERSEAS SERVICE
Frigate Sails Soon (N Z., Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 6. The frigate Taranaki would sail from Auckland on August 16 for about nine months’ service overseas, the Minister of Defence (Mr Eyre) said today. She would replace the cruiser Royalist in the Far East, as New Zealand’s contribution to the Commonwealth Strategic Reserve. The Taranaki, commanded by Commander K. M. Sauli, would go to Pearl Harbour for two months to work with the United States Navy’s fleet training group. From Hawaii, the frigate would sail for Singapore, calling at Midway and Guam.
