MORRINSVILLE. 2013 NORTH BROKEN HILL, LIMITED (Incorporated in the State of Victoria) GEOLOGISTS VACANCIES exist at Broken Hill on the staff of the Exploration Department of the Company for personnel in the following categories: 1. Field Geologist 2. Office Geologist (Male or Female) The exploration Department is responsible for various mineral exploration projects in Eastern Australia and for geological investigations over an area of more than 7 square miles of mining leases to the north of the present Mine. The Company is a major producer of lead, zinc and silver at Broken Hill, and elsewhere is actively engaged in the search for other minerals, notably tin. copper and associated metals. Both lode and alluvial deposits are being tested currently. Details of the positions are: FIELD GEOLOGIST Applicants should be graduates or diplomates in geology with a special interest in structural geology and petrology. Up to five years field experience would be useful, as would familiarity, with geochemical methods and interpretation. The work will involve detailed geological mapping: logging of diamond drill core: preparation of geological plans and sections: calculation of ore reserves; geochemical exploration on the Company’s northern leases: and investigation of mineral deposits elsewhere in the Broken Hill district. The investigation of the northern leases is a challenging one aimed at determining the northern extension of the Broken Hill orebody and at evaluating other ore horizons. The diamond drilling is being expanded and annual footage drilled is expected to exceed 30,000 feet. OFFICE GEOLOGIST A graduate (male or female) in geology would be preferred, but graduates in geography or economic geography or those who have passed one or more years of a University course in geology would be considered. It is essentia) that applicants should be able to express themselves lucidly, concisely and in correct English in technical reports and correspondence. Typewriting ability would be an advantage, although not essential. The appointee will handle much of the correspondence between the Exploration Department and State Mines Departments, technical consultants, contractors and vendors of mining properties. Other duties will include research of geological and mining literature, especially that containing references to areas in which mineral exploration is planned: also preparation of periodical geological reports within the Company and to Mines Departments, and collation of technical records, including those of drilling, geophysical and geochemical surveys. Salaries paid for both positions will be in accordance with the Professional Scientists' Award to a maximum of £2350. In addition, a variable bonus based on the market price of lead is paid. (The bonus for the month of June was £l7 7s 6d per week).
