RADIATION TALKS

Mr G. E. Roth’s Tour

Mr G. E. Roth, director of the National Radiation Laboratory, left Christchurch on Thursday for New York, where he will have talks with the United Nations scientific committee on the effects of atomic radiation.

From there he will go to Britain to attend the first international conference on medical physics at Harrogate

early in September. After that conference, Mr Roth will visit the Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, where he directed one of the divisions from 1959 to 1962. He will also attend the eleventh international conference on radiology in Rome at the end of September. On his way home he will spend a month in Bangkok to assist in the establishment of Thailand’s radiation health protection service. It will be similar to the service operated in New Zealand. Three Thai scientists are at present training at the National Radiation Laboratory in Christchurch. Mr Roth will return to New Zealand in December.
