Nation-Wide Bid To Boost Softball

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 6. The fostering of a greater national interest in softball is suggested in an Auckland remit that will be presented at the meeting of the New Zealand Softball Association’s council in Wellington on August 14.

The Auckland association will ask for more emphasis to be placed on nation-wide publicity to help put the sport in the national eye. It is thought that the prooosed tour of the United States in 1966 by a New Zealand team would help add interest to a publicity drive. The New Zealand associa-

tion has caied for nominations for the manager, coach and three selectors of the side to tour the United States during the middle of 1966 The players will be selected during the holiday tournaments next season.

The association will also ask local associations to assist in fund-raising activities for the tour. An important link will be made with American softball next summer when a team of American coaches will be in this country for just over a week in November.
