Junior Harrier's Fine Record
r pHE Ashburton Harrier Club’s A. Sim will leave the junior ranks next month after an outstanding record of consistent running over his three years as a junior, capped recently by his convincing win in the Canterbury championship race at Loburn. Sim competed in the South Canterbury junior harrier championships in each of his three years in these ranks and finished runner-up on each occasion. In his first junior season he was a member of the Timaru Presbyterian Club and finished second to Ashburton's R. Hood, a former <’ub-mate in Timaru. Sim then finished schooling in Timaru and returned home to his parents’ farm in the Ashburton County. He joined the Ashburton club and in his second attempt at the South Canterbury championship last year he was runner-up to J. Mo Brearty. With Mcßrearty and Hood in the senior
ranks, Sim made his third and final attempt at the South Canterbury championship early last month—and finished second to Timaru's B. Murphy. Sim capped his performances two weeks later, however, with his .ne win in the Canterbury junior championship. His last major cross-coun-try appearance as a junior will be the New Zealand championship at Whangarei next Saturday. He will be competing for the second successive year for Canterbury in the national championships.
