Woman Accountant Wins First Prize

INVERCARGILL, Aug. 5. An Invercargill woman accountant, Miss D. M. Tobin, was making up her company’s wages when she was informed this morning she had won the £12,000 first prize in Golden Kiwi lottery No. 216. The accountant for V.T.R. Motors, Ltd., Miss Tobin heard the news from her employer, Mr V. Russell. The ticket was immediately produced, checked, and then taken to the bank. Miss Tobin, who is described as a quiet, unassuming middle-aged woman, was embarrassed by the sudden spotlight of publicity and declined to take any of the many telephone calls. She went back to the pre- , paration of the company’s ' wages while other members of the staff politely resisted attempts by reporters and photographers to see her. A qualified accountant, Miss Tobin has held her position with V.T.R. Motors for many years. The following is the unofficial prize list.
