Woman Fell From Car And Dragged

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 5. A woman passenger who opened the door of a moving car was drawn out by the wind and dragged about 20 yards along Forest Hill road, Milford, at 11 a.m. today.

Mrs Florence Eileen Shields was admitted to North Shore Hospital, where her condition is reported to be fairly satisfactory. Mrs Shields was sitting in the front seat of a car driven by her husband, Senior Sergeant J. W. Shields, of the Takapuna Police. The door on her side of the car was insecure. When she opened it to slam it shut again, the door whipped back, dragging her out of the car. While Sergeant Shields struggled to stop the car, Mrs Shields, who was still hanging on to the door, was dragged along the road. A diamond ring torn from her finger was lost at the scene of the accident. Lucky Escape David Lobb, aged 29, a constable, of Glen Innes, escaped serious injury by no more than an inch when his patrol car smashed into an excavation in Remuera road early this morning. One of the warning barrier poles sliced through the

windscreen and clipped him on the side of the head. He suffered concussion and was admitted to Green Lane Hospital, where his condition this morning was reported to be satisfactory.
