Obituary Mother Mary Chanel Hartnett
Mother Mary Chanel Hartnett, who died at Calvary Hospital, Christchurch on Tuesday after a short illness, was born at Kaniere on the West Coast. She celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in 1960. Educated by the Sisters of Mercy at Hokitika, Mother Mary entered St. Joseph’s Convent at Lyttelton and taught there in the early part of her religious life. She later taught music and in this field she was noted for her devotion and painstaking work. She was Mother Superior at the Convent of Mercy, Akaroa, where she was stationed for the last six years.
