The stamps show Nazi swastikas. as well as a portrait of the Queen. Lord Brayne, a Conservative peer, said in the House of Lords that there was widespread public dissatisfaction over this Nazi emblem appearing on the stamps. His speech followed widespread criticism in newspaper correspondence columns. A Government spokesman. Lord Hobson, said that the public was under no obligation to buy the stamps. They depicted different aspects of the Battle of Britain On one a broken swastika was half covered by the sea on the shattered tailfin of a Luftwaffe bomber. The bomber was sinking “while above four R.A.F. fighters ride triumphant.” Another design showed a German cross on a Messerschmitt 109 E overlaid by the wing tip of a Spitfire. Lord Hobson said: “Since this is what the Battle of Britain was all about, we do nol propose to withdraw the stamps." "THE PRESS" "THE PRESS" CLASSIFIEDS CLASSIFIEDS OFEFR A REPRESENTATIVE WINDOW.
