SAVINGS WEEK

October 4 To October 9 New Zealand's National Savings Week campaign would be conducted between October 4 and October 9 said the newly-elected chairman of the Christchurch committee (Mr P. M. McShane). However, because of the intensive savings campaigns at present being carried on by the trading banks, the Christchurch committee had decided not to make any special independent efforts to advertise the week in Christchurch. The committee nevertheless would co-operate fully with the national committee in distributing and displaying any promotional material that had been produced in Wellington.

The local committee would also continue to meet periodically to consider ways of keeping before the public, particularly the younger people, the need for saving, he said. The recent annual meeting had expressed its appreciation of the work done over the years for the committee by Sir James Hay, a former chairman of the Canterbury committee and member of the national committee.
