CHCH. LEAGUE HOPES DIM
(By Our Rugby League Reporter.)
The spectacular back play of the Addington team has earned it the main Rugby League match at the Show Grounds tomorrow. It will play Christchurch, another attractive team but one with confusing lapses of form. Addington, winner of its last five championship matches and at present the form team in the competition should win tomorrow and win attractively. To gain admission to the top four, Christchurch must beat Addington and Hornby, Papanui must lose its next two games (against Kaiapoi and Addington) and Christchurch must beat Papanui in
a play-off. The chances of this happening are very dim. The revitalised Marist XIII, which held Hornby to one point last week, has a difficult assignment against the leading team, Linwood, but the latter’s form has been spasmodic and not that of a prospective championship winner. Last week Kaiapoi seemed lost without its captaincoach, J. E. Bond, and there appears little chance of it finding another forward leader before it meets Papanui tomorrow. With its strong pack, Papanui should win comfortably. The fourth match, at Denton Park, should result in a fairly easy win for Hornby over Sydenham.
