Yaldhurst Road Traffic Problem
(from Our Parliamentary Reporter)
WELLINGTON, August 5.
A speed limit of 30 miles an hour on Yaldhurst road between Church corner and Russley road was not considered desirable, but other measures were being adopted to improve traffic conditions in the area, said the Minister of Works (Mr Allen), in Parliament today in reply to questions by Mr M. A. Connelly (Opp., Riccarton).
Mr Connelly, had asked whether a limit was desirable, when work would start on the widening of this section of Yaldhurst road, and whether a roundabout could be constructed at the corner of Yaldhurst road and Carmens road.
Mr Allen said the Transport Department had investigated this section of State Highway 73. Recent accidents on this section had been caused by side road traffic failing to observe “Stop” or “Give Way” signs when joining or crossing the highway. “During the current financial year, the Ministry of Works proposes to widen the seal adjacent to Carmen and -Rusgley roads,” Mr Allen said, " and -ta effect improvements to these intersections. "Widening of the highway between Coach corner and Russley road is not considered warranted at this stage. “A roundabout at Carmen roa<j is not an appropriate measure but this intersection is to be otherwise improved, and a suitable design is now beiijg investigated.”
