Obituary MR A. KIBBLE
The editor of the Greymouth “Evening Star” for almost two decades up to the end of the Second World War, Mr Archibald Kibble died last week at his home in Bournemouth, England. He was 85. Bom in London, Mr Kibble was trained as an accountant but took up journalism on coming to New Zealand. After a period on the literary staff of “The Press,” Christchurch, he became editor of the Greymouth “Evening Star” in 1921. After 25 years in this post he retired, living first in Christchurch and then returning to England, to live in Bournemouth. Mr Kibble was a prominent member of the Masonic Lodge in Greymouth and was a pastmaster. He was also associated with the Holy Trinity Church and was a vestryman for about three years, a keen bowler, Mr Kibble was a president of the Greymouth Bowling Club. MR F. HIGHAM Mr Frank Higham, who died in Auckland on Tuesday, was manager of the United Service Hotel for 12 years up to December, 1960. Mr Higham, an Englishman, had more than 20 years’ experience in managing hotels. He came to Christchurch from Te Awamutu. At the United Service he was host to many important overseas visitors, politicians, act s and sportsmen included. He retired from the hotel in 1960 because of ill health. Mr Higham is surdved by his wife.
