Two Struck By Train
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 23. A 15-month-old baby was flung 30ft when her mother was struck by the engine of the Waitakere-Auckland suburban train at Sunnyvale station at 11.05 a.m. today. Neither was seriously injured. Mrs Georgina Matika, of Sunnyvale, was waiting for a train with her baby, Fiona, in her arms. She left the station shelter as a train approached, and was flung to the ground and the baby knocked from her arms as it passed. A Railways Department official said it was not certain whether Mrs Matika had stepped too close to the line or whether her coat, blown by the wind, had been caught in the engine. Mrs Matika was treated in Auckland Hospital and discharged. The baby will be kept in the hospital overnight for observation.
