The tunnels will be part of the Tongariro Power ' Development in the central area ] of the North Island about half 1 way between Auckland and Wellington. Contract No. 1, Whakapapa to Wanganui Tunnels, comprises the excavation and concrete lin ing of approximately 27,050 feet i of 10ft 6in equivalent internal j diameter tunnel, 8850 feet of 10ft 9in and 18,400 feet of lift 6in internal diameter circular 1 section tunnel, and the con ; struction of concrete intakes, weirs, and outfall structures. Contract No. 2, Tokaanu Tun nel, comprises the excavation and concrete lining of approxi mately 18,800 feet of 20ft 9in, 500 feet of 18ft 6in, and 800 feet ' of 16ft 9in internal diameter tunnel, the excavation and concrete lining of a surge cham her, and the construction of a concrete intake and gate struc ture.
