GREENKEEPERS’ AWARD
Wages Increase Greenkeepers under the Canterbury Greenkeepers’ (Golf and Tennis Clubs) Award have received increases of up to 9s lid a week under a new award which came into force on May 3,1965. The new rates are:—Head greenkeeper, £l6 Os lOd weekly, an increase of 9s lid: sole greenkeepers, £l5 7s 6d, an increase of 9s lOd, and other greenkeepers, £l4 ss, an increase of 9s sd. The hourly rate for casual or part-time labour has been increased by lid to 7s 2d. Greenkeepers required to do extra work for provincial, inter-provincial or North or South Island golf championship tournaments are to receive a payment of 16s 6d a day for the day on which the work is performed, and £1 5s a day for extra work for a national championship tournament. Greenkeepers required to do extra work for open tennis championship tournaments are to receive a payment of 16s 6d a day, and an additional £1 5s daily for additional work for New Zealand tournaments. Youths may be employed by agreement between the union and the employer at not less than the following rates:—For the first six months, £7 7s 6d weekly; for the second six months, £8; for the third six months, £8 15s; for the fourth six months, £9 10s; for the fifth six months, £lO 12s 6d, and for the sixth six months, £ll 12s 6d. Subsequent to the sixth six monthly period or on attaining 21 years a youth will be paid at adult rates. The previous provision for the employment of youths was by arrangement between the employing club and the union. The award incorporates the terms of settlement arrived at in conciliation.
