FINANCE NEEDED
Salvationist Camp Foundations for the Salvation Army Conference Camp on the Glentui river were well under way, Captain B. McStay, press officer for the Christchurch Salvation Army, said in Christchurch. Large volunteer work parties have assisted with the construction of the camp, which is situated seven miles from Oxford on the OxfordRangiora road. It is only one year since the scheme was formulated and eight weeks since construction began. The foundation stone, laid by Commissioner C. Davidson, territorial commander for New Zealand, commemorates the building project as a special contribution by the Canter-bury-Westland division for the Salvation Army Centennial Year. Surrounded by native bush and set in six acres of playing fields, the camp will have power and telephone services, which have already been connected to the site.
Eventually it will provide accommodation for 150 persons and it will be equipped with central heating. There will also be 12 rooms with two single beds, suitable for conference accommodation. As the camp will be all under one roof it will be possible to have camps and conferences all year round. The camp had aroused a great deal of local interest, but further financial support was needed, said Captain McStay. The Salvation Army did not accept grants from the Golden Kiwi lottery because it did not support the principle of the fund.
Ouruhia Hall.—Mesdames M. Brown and E. Johnstone and Messrs A. C. Richards, I. B. Roberts, E. R. Stead, J. L. Stead and A. W. Townley have been appointed members of the Ouruhia Public Hall Board.
