Past Wins Recalled
; One member of the 1956 Canterbury side that beat the Springboks, Mr S. G. Breinner, made a special trip from Wellington for a function held last evening by the Cantabrian Rugby Club. He returns this morning. The function, which included films and brief addresses by Mr C. A. McDonald, president of the club, and Mr E. Cummings, a Canterbury player in 1921, was held for members of both Canterbury sides to have beaten the South Africans. The seven survivors of the 1921 side and 11 of the 1956 team (plus some of the emergencies), representatives of the Victory Park Board and the Canterbury Rugby Union, one of the 1956 selector-coaches (Mr J Morton) and members of the club were present. Mr McDonald announced that the club had decided to make all seven members of the 1921 side honorary and non-paying (“non-playing” quer.-d one of the veterans) members of the Cantabrian club.
