SNELL TO RETURN
“Matter Of Health” (N Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) BONN, July 22. The New Zealand Olympic champion, P. G. Snell, is to cut short his European tour and fly home because of his poor condition, his coach, Mr A. L. Lydiard, said today. Mr Lydiard told Reuter at Erlangen, near Nuremberg: “I is a matter of health.” Snell himself said: “I feel I am not improving. I won’t do any more running in Europe and will return home within the next few days.” In Auckland last night, Snell’s wife, Sally, said that she had not heard word of his returning home immediately. She said that earlier this week she had received a letter from him, posted in Denmark, in which he said that he was planning further races, including a meeting at the White City, London, next month.
It was possible, she said, that he had decided not to persevere in an attempt to regain form, and would return home shortly. If there were a change of plans, she thought that she would soon receive a cable indicating his date of arrival in New Zealand.
