RICCARTON POWER

N.Z. Charges Compared Domestic power charges in Riccarton borough are the fourth lowest in New Zealand. according to figures produced yesterday by the Town Clerk (Mr R. Sarjeant). The assistant clerk (Mr D. Gainstord) earlier this month had attended a management training course arranged by the Electrical Supply Authorities’ Association in Wellington, said Mr Sarjeant. During this course Mr B. M. Colebaker, the Auckland Electric Power Board’s supply engineer, had given a paper analysing domestic tariffs for 28 supply authorities, chosen at random, and in this paper Riccarlon's figure was the lowest. While it had been suspected. said Mr Sarjeant, Riccarton’s favourable position had not fully been realised. A comparison of the statistics lof New Zealand’s 76 supply I authorities had since been made. The lowest rate in the country for domestic power was Nelson’s 0.857 d a unit, followed by 0.89 d in New Plymouth, 0.897 d in Wellington and 0.898 d in Riccarton. The Christchurch M.E.D. domestic rate was 1.061 d, and that for the Central Canterbury Board l.llld. Riccarton was also low on the average retail price of all its units for domestic, commercial and industrial power, said Mr Sarjeant. Central Canterbury’s figure was 1.301 d, the M.E.D.’s 1.356 d, and Riccarton’s 1.376 d.
