TOP SKIERS FOR N.Z. TITLES
A Frenchman, one of the finest skiers in the world, and an Australian team, described in Sydney as one of the best national sides chosen, will be competing in the New Zealand ski-ing championships at Coronet Peak, Queenstown, on August 14.
The Frenchman is Jean Claude Killy, the 1964 national slalom champion, and other members of the French team are Miss Marielle Goitschel, Miss Madeleine Bocha-I tay, and L. Lacroix, ranked No. 1 in the world giant slalom event. The Australian Ski Federation this week named 13 men and women to compete in the titles. The team includes the 16- 1
year-old Malcolm Milne, who was only three seconds behind Killy in the Thredbo Cup slalom, in the Southern N.S.W. alps on Saturday. Malcolm is the brother of I Ross Milne, the Australian who was killed at Innsbruck during the 1964 Winter Olympics. Christine Smith, aged 19. Australia’s present woman champion, will be in the team which will leave by air for 'Christchurch on August 11.
