Test Problems For Kiwis
"The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, July 21. The selection of the Kiwi Rugby League test side during its forthcoming tour of England and France will be very interesting, according to Mr W. Telford, the coach of the team.
Mr Telford said in Auckland yesterday that quite a few positions will present problems because of the large number of experienced players chosen.
He mentioned the wing position as an example. This will be wide open for speculation as all four play-
ers named, B. T. Reidy (Auckland), P. M. White (Canterbury), F. R. Christian (Auckland), and B. W. Langton (Canterbury), have played test football. Mr Telford said that there were several other positions that came into this category. Most of the forward positions look very open. “It will be very interesting to see the development of the test side,” said Mr Telford, “and the development of the players generally.” He emphasised that the selectors had chosen 18 play-
ers who had represented New Zealand in addition to eight newcomers. “On the last tour we returned with 22 test players after taking away a lot of young players, but this year could finish with more test players than that.” Commenting on the standoff half and loose forward positions, which have caused considerable concern this season, he said that these positions now appeared to be satisfactory. ■ The team will leave Auckland by air on August 13.
