Indonesian Urges Poverty Abolition
(N.Z P A -Reuter—Copyright) DJAKARTA, July 21. Communism would no longer exist in Indonesia when poverty had been eliminated, according to an Indonesian Communist leader.
Quoted by the official Antara news agency today, Mr M. H. Lukman, deputy-chair-man of the Indonesian Communist Party, said: “If there are some people who want to eliminate communism, they should first eliminate poverty then communis- will no longer exist.” The Communist leader said: “It is nonsense that antiCommunist people are defenders of Bung Karno (President Sukarno). Those who want to be the pupils of Bung Karno should be friendly with the Communists and to understand Bung Karno's policy they should study Marxism." According to Antara he dismissed the theory that loyalty to the party would end when loyalty to the country had been expressed. Mr Lukman, who was giving
a lecture to officials of the Air Communication Ministry, added: “Every one, before joining the party, should pledge that he will be loyal to the party to serve the nation and the fatherland." The Indonesian Communist Party, which claims to have three million members and 20 million sympathisers, is the biggest Communist party outside the Communist and socialist countries.
